As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to know what would happen in the future. I have always wondered what the next days would bring. I had many questions about the future as a kid and one of them was “How many times will I trip and fall in my life?” I thought that God surely knew everything and He knew how many times I would fall and hurt myself. I just wanted Him to tell me. I am not sure why. Now as an adult I still believe that God knows how many times I will fall but I also understand that it is not that important. What is important is that I am prepared to handle the fall. We all trip and fall physically or metaphorically at some point. We can’t be ready for the fall all the time but as believers we are with the One who knows how to handle the trip and fall and the One who can hold us up before we hit the ground. God knows what’s coming. He knows what’s around the corner and He knows what will happen years and years from now. The number of times that we will fall doesn’t intimidate Him because He already knows how He will keep us upright or how He will get us back on our feet. Friend, it’s ok that you don’t know what tomorrow brings or that you don’t know when your next fall is going to happen. God knows what’s coming next and He has a safety net that will catch you every time you fall.
God knows what’s next and that thought alone is very comforting. He has seen the future. He has been there and He has taken care of it all. Tomorrow could be the day of your perfect breakthrough or tomorrow could be the day of your fall into a ditch of worry and headaches but what matters is that the Lord is already there. The Lord has visited the ditch before you did. The Lord has fallen into the precipice before you did. The Lord has experienced the pain and the suffering way before you did. The Cross is where all this started and where it all ended. What’s coming next is a total mystery but it is a puzzle that Jesus solved on the Cross. What’s coming next can be very good or it can be very bad but no matter what, it won’t change the Lord. The Lord will change the bad into good and the good into very good. Your future is in His hands. Leave it there. Don’t try to be in control of what belongs to the Lord.
How do we take control of our future? By worrying and by injecting fear and negativity into it. We destabilize what the Lord has already stabilized every time we doubt and take matters into our own hands. If we could just make it a habit to let go and let God be God, we would worry less about the future. When you think about it, all the worry and the mental torment we go through don’t make tomorrow better. The key is to find a way to relax into the Lord’s arms and accept Him for the God He is. He is a God who holds us in the palm of His hand and who always knows what’s best and what’s next. If what’s next is not your best, then God is not done with your “what’s next.” He is still paving the way for a better future so you ought to hang tight and trust Him. Your future is bright. It might be overshadowed by bad weather conditions at times but it will be bright because the Lord oversees the weather patterns of your life. Let the perfect meteorologist design your future weather patterns. God knows what’s next and He will make sure it’s the best!
