The 10-year spiritual challenge

There has been a challenge going around on social media called the 10-year challenge. Basically, you have to post two pictures of yourself, one from today and one from 10 years ago. I wish I could take a picture of what I looked like spiritually ten years ago and compare it with today’s picture. I by no means imply that I have reached a high level of maturity in the Lord but I know for sure that when we do life with Jesus, spiritual growth ensues. It is impossible to spend time in His presence daily and not get affected in a positive way. His peace is contagious. His love is viral and His joy is infectious. The more we seek His face, the more we find amazing traits that change our perceptions of life. We can’t look at Jesus’ face every day in prayer and not look at the world differently. There is love in our eyes and there is hope in our hearts when we spend time staring at His beauty and His majesty. When we grow in love, we know that we are on the right track. When we have more hope, we know that we are spending our time wisely in His presence. When our faith increases, we know that the Spirit of Jesus is at work in our lives. The Lord also promised that with Him we would go from glory to glory. 10 years from now you will not look the same. 10 years from now your spirit will look differently.

Today I want to encourage you to take the spiritual 10-year challenge and see how much you have grown and how far you have come. I am not encouraging you to brag about how much you have matured. I want you to look in the mirror and see the beautiful work the Lord has done in you. I want you to see yourself with the eyes of God’s love and with the hope of His heart. Take the challenge and celebrate the growth. Take the challenge and praise the Lord for what He has done. Take the challenge and stir up your faith. Take the challenge and reignite your passion for Christ. Take the challenge and trust that 10 years from now you will be at a different level in your spiritual life. You will be even more aware that you were made in God’s image. You will be closer to His Spirit and you will know how to handle life even better. The Lord is not going to let 10 years go by without assisting you. His Spirit will remain and your old self will go.

Now, you don’t have to wait 10 years to develop your spiritual muscles and to get a spiritual makeover. You should also remember that the challenge of spiritual growth is a personal challenge that concerns you and only you. It is not a comparison with other people’s spiritual maturity. It is running your own race and keeping up with God’s pace for your life. Challenge yourself to get closer to God so that you get to know Him better for yourself and then you can share Him better. It is a personal challenge with a global outreach. Our spiritual growth should be love-centered and love wants to help and bless others. Grow in the Lord so you can grow in love. Grow in the Lord so you can serve Him with even more passion. Grow in the Lord so you can be a stronger doer of the Word and not a follower of the world. Your challenge is for the here and now. Check where you were before, enjoy where you are now and look forward to where you are headed. With God there are great things to come!
