I remember when I used to spend a lot of time and energy worrying about money. It was exhausting. I felt like I was running marathons in my head and I didn’t give myself a break to breathe and rest for a few minutes. I kept on going for no reason. I would finish one mental marathon and start another one right away. All this mental running didn’t get me to a destination where I found peace and where things were better. I always ended up at the start where worry and fear were my starting block. This went on for a while until I heard deep down inside “Even when you are in the valley of the shadow of death.” That verse comforted me more than you can imagine. I heard it spoken directly to my heart and it came with a blanket of reassurance that was placed around my worrying mind and that covered my whole body. God was speaking His truth. He was telling me that I might have been in a valley of debts but He was with me. What I was going through at the time was definitely a valley where stress and anxiety were dominant. I couldn’t see the Lord in that valley until He reminded me that He was there.
Friend, if you are going through a valley today, if you are going through a dark period where there is no sun in the valley, let me remind you that the Lord is there with you. He is not being passive. He is not casually walking behind you. He is right there with you walking with you in that valley. You might not have the money you need at the moment. You might not have your needs met but you have the One who will meet your needs and give you more than enough. Find the sun in the valley. Find the Son in the valley. Don’t let the valley blind you to the truth. Don’t let the shadows in the valley intimidate you. Keep walking in that valley and keep looking up. There is some writing on the horizon and the writing is the Word of God with a special message for you. The message is that God is in the valley and not just on top of the mountains. Use that message to your advantage. Speak it out loud. Make that valley tremble as you speak the Lord’s truth over your life.
What should be happening when you acknowledge that the Lord is with you in the valley? Your perspective will change. You should focus on the Lord more than on the valley. You should be so into Him that the valley starts disappearing in front of your very eyes. You will still be in it but it will not seem real. Your faith in the Lord will carry you and take you out of the valley and in the meantime your faith should bring you peace in the valley. Thank the Lord for being with you in the valley and pray that you can receive His peace. Pray for all mental blocks to go away. Pray for joy in the valley. The Lord is right there with you and He will pour joy into your heart. Pray that the eyes of your understanding be wide open. Pray that you see with faith and not with fear. Pray that you keep walking in love. Pray that the valley doesn’t invade your heart but that your heart remains strong in the valley. Praise in the valley. Let your songs of praise sound the horn of the Lord in the valley. The Lord is with you. You have nothing to worry about and nothing to fear. He is with you to take you out of the valley. Stay encouraged!
