It blows my mind when I think about how God loved me even before I knew Him, even before I existed. He loved you and me and He had a plan for our lives. His love was abundant right when we were born. We were born into a world where there can be a lot of hatred and pain but God’s love is there as well. Suffering was waiting at the doorstep of our lives but so was God’s love. God is patient and He waited for us for a long time in some cases. He was watching us and patiently smiling at us even when we didn’t know Him. Talk about perfect love! To think that some people believe that God only loves Christians is a heresy. You and I were not saved but yet we were loved. We lived in a dark world and we didn’t have our eyes on Jesus but He had His eyes on us. There was no qualification. There were not prerequisites for this love. We didn’t earn it and we didn’t buy it. God’s love is the free gift that will keep on giving and that cost the highest price in the universe. Jesus paid that price for anyone who will believe in Him. There is no money in the world that can buy the redemption that He purchased for humanity. When you and I were rebels, defying God with our lives, He still loved us. When our words were against Him, He was for us. When our actions rejected Him, He accepted us. When our thoughts were challenging Him, He was open to us. God loved us at our darkest. The darkest of darkness doesn’t scare Him and it doesn’t stop Him from feeling love toward us. Today I want to reiterate that God loved you at your darkest and His powerful love for you hasn’t changed. He doesn’t love you more now that you are saved. He loves you more than you will ever know and that love is lasting and it is continuing. If that amazing love was able to save your life, don’t you think that it can save you from your trials and tribulations today?
The love that saved you from the darkness is still alive today. Your salvation hasn’t stopped. Just because you are facing problems today doesn’t nullify the love that was demonstrated by the Lord yesterday. It is important that you remember that God loved you at your darkest because it shows how big His love is. It is very difficult to love someone who is always defying us and showing us no respect. I have had a few students like that and I must admit that it was hard to care about them when they were to mean to me. However, God softened my heart. His heart impacted my feelings. His love rubbed off on me when I prayed. His love reminded me of His grace for me. His love pointed out how anyone facing darkness needed love to save them. It’s the love of God that saves us from our darkness and we can’t forget that love. I am not saying we should dwell on how we were before God in our lives but we should be thankful that His love saved us even when we didn’t deserve it. The Lord saved us from ourselves and He gave us the light that we needed to put an end to the dark ages of rebellion and sin.
If God loved you at your darkest, don’t you think He still loves you? Like I said before, He doesn’t love you more now. His love has this beautiful quality of never changing. The God who parted the seas and who turned water into wine, loves you. He adores you and He wants to part the seas for you today and turn your troubled waters into wine of joy. When you got saved, your salvation started. It’s not over. The party just began! Enjoy God’s love. Be aware of it. Be more mindful of it. Thank Him daily for His love. Step into it and live your life with the assurance that you are loved every second of every minute of every hour of every day. Embrace the love that once saw your darkness but didn’t stop loving you. If today you are having a hard time maintaining a relationship with the Lord, trust that He still loves you. Trust that there is nothing that you can do that will ever separate you from His love. You don’t have the power to make the Lord hate you. He loves you so you need to learn to love yourself and learn to be the child of God that you are. God loved you at your darkest and His shining love for you is still beaming today. You are loved more than you will ever know!
