For the longest time I have been fascinated by the fruit of the Spirit. Each fruit is a powerhouse for living. I call them powerhouses because they contain the power that we need to make it in this life. Some people believe that being a millionaire or being famous are the definitions of success. You make it if you make a lot of money. What do millions do for your soul? What does fame do for your spirituality? Do money and fame get you closer to God? My definition of success is to live a life with God, for God and through God. One way you can maintain such a life is by letting the fruit of the Spirit grow in your life. Collecting the fruit and giving it a chance to turn into a tree of knowledge and a tree of wisdom is a beautiful thing. The powerhouses of the Holy Spirit are meant to get us closer to God. They each house traits of the Lord and those traits depict the beauty of the Lord. Think of how the fruits of the Spirit put together make a divine basket. The fruit basket of the Lord as I like to call it, should be front and center in our homes and we should be eating them all the time. They are great to look at and smell but we should be tasting them as much as we can. If you are looking for some spiritual nutrients, indulge and have the fruit of the Spirit. The Lord has set a table before you and the fruit of His Spirit is among the delicacies that will make you a champion for the Lord and a spiritual warrior for His glory!
Galatians 5:22-23 says “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” When you look at this amazing list, you can’t help but see the goodness of God. Each one of these traits is a drop from Heaven. Each one of them has God written all over it and they represent what the Spirit of the Lord is all about. God is first and foremost love. Love is what makes God. God is love. If you could see God, you would see Love. What does love look like? We each have our own idea of what it’s like but since God is love, I believe that love, true love is way bigger than we know. We can never understand God’s love completely. I know that many have tried to portray God but it’s impossible. God’s love is also indescribable. We have an idea but we don’t have a real picture of it. However, since God is love and He loves us, He brings us into His world and we taste of love. As I was getting older in my Christian walk, I discovered that if there were no love in a certain place, there was no God. Churches that pretended to embrace love but didn’t know love were not following God. There is a difference between God and god and I have experienced god even in Christian circles. Love is the biggest fruit of the Spirit and it holds all the power that is necessary to change the world. As long as we have love, we can access all the other fruit. Faith without love is nothing!
Faith is important when we work our way through the fruit of the Spirit. We have to believe that the fruit exists and that it is available to us. The Holy Spirit conveys the fruit and our faith grabs it for us. I trust that every believer has the fruit of the Spirit somewhere on the table set before him or her and it is up to the believer to taste and embrace the fruit. The fruit is only as powerful as we allow it to be. I am still studying the fruit and letting myself be led by the Spirit when it comes to the fruit. It’s easy to resist the fruit and fall into temptation. The fruit of the Spirit is always better than the fruit of the flesh. The fruit of the flesh is very easy to eat. We have it in us. It is a part of us. The fruit of the Spirit is given to us by the Holy Spirit and it is also in us but we have to work at it sometimes. Like they say, it is easier to be mean than to be nice. It is easier to follow the flesh than to follow the spirit. There is a great amount of power in the fruit of the Spirit because it is the fruit of God. God in us produces fruit. It is always good fruit. When we give in to God and His fruit grows in our lives, we allow His power to invade our lives and to touch the lives of others. All the fruit of the Spirit can be a blessing to other people. Treat people with respect and with the power of the fruit of the Spirit and you will change the world around you. Let’s focus on the fruit of the Spirit and we will be showing the beauty of the Lord to the world.
