There is so much I could say about the Bible and yet I feel like I don’t know a lot. One thing I know for sure is that the Scriptures have had a very strong influence on my life. The Word of God has impacted my life like no other texts. When the Word says that God is His Word, it makes sense to me because with every page, every chapter and every verse comes wisdom from God. I find God in His Word. After I had an encounter with the Lord almost 10 years ago, His Word became alive. Every time I read the Word, especially when I read Jesus’ words, I am touched and I am both blessed and challenged. The blessing happens because the Word is full of God’s love and the challenge manifests in my head where there is a battle and it also takes place between my flesh and my spirit. We can read the Word through the eyes of our flesh so to speak or we can read it through the eyes of our spirit. Carnal reading of the Word doesn’t do much for us. Reading the Word and seeing it just as a historical text for instance doesn’t change us. Now, when we prayerfully read the Word, we experience its power and its beauty. The Word of God is full of power. Today I am inviting you to read the Word with the assistance of the Holy Spirit. Read the Word knowing that you are reading God. Read the Word with the knowledge that it gives life and it will change your life forever.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”* God is the Word. If you are trying to know God better, spend time in His Word and you will meet Him. Ask for help so you can see through the parables and through the deeper meanings. It is important to pray before reading the Bible. Why? Because we need the Holy Spirit to assist us. Jesus sent Him so He could be with us and so He could open the eyes of our hearts, the eyes of our spirits. I love that when we read the Word of God, a footprint is placed in our spirit. There is a mark from the Lord in us and His Spirit reminds us of that footprint. The Holy Spirit guides us toward Jesus one step at a time and every verse brings us closer to the Lord. I have often been reminded of what the Word says when I go into prayer. Prayer triggers the Spirit in me. Prayer enhances what is already in my spirit. I strongly recommend that you pray about understanding the Bible and knowing Jesus more through His Word. The Bible is your friend. Get well-acquainted with it. Become intimate with the Lord thanks to the Bible and by spending time in fellowship with Him.
The Word of God can appear to be a mystery and that is why we need discernment. We share the mind of Christ but we have to put that truth into practice by knowing the Word. I am not talking about just memorizing scriptures. I am talking about meditating on the Word and making the effort to open our Bibles every single day. When was the last time you opened your Bible? I am not trying to make you feel guilty. It is a question we need to ask ourselves and consider. If it’s been days, today is a good day to read the Word again. I suggest you set time aside every day to be in the Word. It doesn’t have to be for an hour. Have some quality time with Jesus by reading a chapter or a couple of chapters and then meditate on them. You can write down verses and look at them a few times during the day. Put the Word of God in front of you as much as you can and you will leave the worries of the world behind you. The Word defies the world by presenting the truth that no negativity can contradict. Life can be tough. Life can be unfair but you have a Savior who changes life and who rights all the wrongs. Give His Word a big place in your life on a daily basis. Let the Word transform your mind as it introduces you to the power of the Gospel. Make reading the Bible a habit. Let it become a lifestyle. Enjoy the Word. Enjoy the Lord. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!
