Keep the fire of God burning

I went outside yesterday morning and it was very cold. My whole body was cold even though I was wearing layers. My spirit was on fire for the Lord because He had put a great message of encouragement in my heart but my body was shaking from the cold. I praised the Lord that there was heat inside of me despite the cold. I do have to say that I have had times when my spirit was cold. I have tried to put on layers that would keep my spirit on fire for the Lord but the layers didn’t help. What do you do when your spirit is so cold that you can’t get excited about the Lord? Those moments of “cold Christianity” are real. During those moments we are not even lukewarm, we are plainly cold in our Christian walk and nothing seems to get us going. I remember the most recent episode of coldness. The main problem was that it attacked my faith by making me doubt. The cold spell came with cold words toward the Lord. Negative words came flowing into my mind. Each one of them is trying to separate me from the Lord. When we are cold, we need layers and we need heat. Where does the best spiritual heat come from? It comes from the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is described as fire in the Word of God. John said that Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down and rested upon the believers as fire. God is called a consuming fire. There is an undoubtedly powerful fire associated with the Lord and that is what we need when we have gone cold spiritually. We need the consuming fire of the Lord. His fire will burn all the negativity, all the doubts and all the worries. If you are going through a cold season today, turn on the heat. Turn on the heat of the Holy Spirit and get a spiritual revival going. Knock on the door and the Lord will take you into His warm abode where His fire is always burning and where love, peace, joy and hope abound. God promised that His Spirit who dwells in us will give life to our mortal bodies. Those dry bones are not going to be dry for long. Call upon the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to warm you up. Ask for a fresh fire from Heaven. When we ask in faith, He always gives.

I talk to the Holy Spirit. I talk to the Spirit of the Lord. He is very communicative and talkative. He also points at Jesus. He stays anchored in His truth and He always has good news. The good news of the gospel of Jesus. His good news is that Jesus is alive and He came to set us free. Being cold and unexcited about God is a state we need deliverance from.  When I pray for deliverance, I expect results. I expect freedom. Ask the Lord to set you free and to warm you up. Now, since you are asking in faith, you need to act by faith and not by sight. Don’t worry if you don’t feel the fire right away. Get the fire going by praising the Lord. That is one of the best ways to get a spiritual revival going. The Lord inhabits our praises and when He comes to the scene, He comes with fire. Praise and worship every day even if your body feels cold. Your singing and your honoring God with your life will bring the fire back. Don’t give up! When you lift up the Lord with all your might, when you do your best, He does the rest. You can’t praise the Lord from your heart and not see fire come to you. God is faithful and He will help you and bless you. Get into the fire so to speak. Keep your head up. Keep your hopes up. Keep praising the Lord and you will keep the fire burning.

Let God put out your fires

Some situations in our lives can feel like real fires. Everything is burning. Our minds are burning with anxiety and fear. Our hearts are burning with pain and our souls feel like they are burning in hell. Problems pile up and before we know it we have a bonfire of trials and suffering. When you feel the burn, it’s hard to find relief and to find the hose that is going to put out the fire. God can put out any fire. He is the fire that dominates all fires. Like an ardent bush He is burning with power and with love. His fire is the most powerful fire that exists and it can’t be put out by any schemes of the enemy. When your life is on fire, let the Holy Spirit control the negative fires and make you burn with faith and hope. There is a flame that will always remain. The flame of the Spirit of God will never be extinguished. It will always be more fervent than the fires of the enemy. You see, God showed up as fire in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. He was a positive fire. The enemy wants us to hate fires now by giving us tough situations that leave us scorched and burned. We get used to being burned and to being hurt and that is not the way it should be. Fires will happen but we shouldn’t let them consume us and destroy us. Today I am inviting you to call upon the Lord and ask Him to put out the fires in your life. Ask Him to step in and intervene. Give Him the fires. Let Him dominate them and control them. The enemy might have some nasty matches but the Lord has fire extinguishers that will paralyze the enemy’s tactics. Don’t be afraid of the fires of life. The Lord will allow you to walk through them and you won’t be burned. Peace is on the way. Relief is on the way. The fire extinguisher is on the way. The Lord has a burning desire to help you and no fires in the world will stop Him when you choose to walk by faith and not by sight.

When I walk my dog in the morning, I walk by a fire station. I admire all the volunteers from the fire department  that work so hard to help the community and to keep us safe. They are not afraid of fires and they go head on into dangerous situations knowing that they will be able to neutralize the fire and deal with those fiery conditions. From what I see they are confident that they can tackle most fires because of their training and the equipment they use. God has all the training that is needed to deal with fires. He wrote the book. He wrote the manual. He designed the training.  No one knows what to do better than He does. His methods for putting out fires never fails. So what are we waiting for? Let’s call on the One who can make the fires stop. I get into situations where the fire is so strong that I can’t even hear myself think. I am so engrossed in the intensity of the fire and I lose my focus. A fiery condition makes us stumble and fall. We land in a hot mess and we can’t get out of it. Those intense fires can be financial holes that the fires of life have made in our lives. A sickness can be a fire. A strong sense of hopelessness can be a fire. The feeling of constantly walking in a desert can be a fire. A dry season can be a fire. No matter what fires we are facing, the Lord can intervene and refresh the situation. The Lord is the best fireman around. He walks right through the fire and He is not intimidated by the flames. The flames are actually scared of Him and they get out of the way. I am starting to be more aware of the presence of the Lord when I go through a fire. He is not leaving my side and He gives me confidence. I can’t put out the fire but God can.

Next time you find yourself in a fire, remember that God is walking before you in the fire and He is making a way for you. He can part the seas and He can part the fires as well. You are not going to get burned as long as you are holding His hand. The glory of God looks like a consuming fire. It is a fire that consumes the fires that are meant to hurt you. The enemy has no chance of winning against the glory of God. Keep that in mind. The fire you are going through right now will be destroyed by the fire of the Lord and you will come out of the ashes beautiful and new. The opposition has sent this fire to burn you and ruin you but the Lord will turn it to your advantage and it will help you grow and make progress on the course of your faith. Don’t let the fire bring you down. Bring the fire down with the hose of the Word of God. The Word of God will shower your fires with peace and freedom. You are not bound to stay in a fiery place. God is going to put out all the fires in your life. Ask Him. Pray to Him. Trust Him. The fires are about to go. You will come out untouched. Stay encouraged! God is in control!

When you are going through the fire

For many people these days, life feels like it is putting them through the fire. It looks like there are fires all over the world and it is hard to put them out. The daily burn has become many people’s reality. There is the burn caused by disease, fear, loss of relatives and friends, loss of finances, loss of peace and so on. The fires are strong and the heat is nonstop. The other day the Lord reminded me that He was with me through the fires of life. He took me down memory lane and showed me how He had stood by me through different fires. When you believe in God and you trust Him, you will still go through the fire but God is holding you in the palm of His hand as you are walking through the fire. You are not walking alone and you are not dipped in the fire. You are in His hand and you are protected. You might feel the heat and you will inhale the smoke but you will make it through the fire. God is in control and He will put out the fire. What you need to do is trust that He is holding you in His hand even when you feel like you are going to be scorched. No weapon formed against you will prosper. The fire that was formed around you will not prosper. It could burn for a while but God’s hand can withstand the heat and the burn. Stay comforted in His hand. Focus on His hand and not on the fire. Focus on the protection and not the desolation.

When a fire is burning and you have to be in it or walk through it, like firefighters do, it is necessary to wear a protective mask. Firefighter masks cover most of their heads. They allow them to keep their head intact and to see through the smoke. The helmet of salvation is our mask through the fires. It is a protection for the head as well. We need to keep our heads intact when we are going through the fires of life. Why? Because thoughts originate in our heads and if they are not aligning with God’s Word, if they are negative or if they are bringing us down, they will make our walks through the fires very difficult. We are saved and the helmet of salvation is a reminder that God is for us, that Jesus died for us on the cross and that we will make it. Let the helmet show you that there is a way through that smoke. Let it guide you and reveal to you that the fire is not bigger than your God. Let the helmet open your eyes to the power and the truth that are bigger than what’s in front of you. Look at what’s beyond the fire thanks to the helmet of salvation.

A fire is a scary sight. It makes you think that you are going to perish. When things are heating up and you can’t pull yourself together, you can easily picture that the fire is going to burn your life. God is a consuming fire as well. The fire in Him is bigger than the fire of the enemy. His flames are higher and his heat is more intense. The fire of the Holy Spirit makes a way through the flames of the enemy. Let God give you the strength to stay strong in the fire of the world as you know that the fire of the Lord is stronger. Be like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who were thrown into a fiery furnace because they had refused do bow down to the king’s image and they would not adore other gods. To them God was the only God. As your fire is intensifying, pray to have the resilience and the strength of the three boys in the fire. Refuse to bow down to your fire. Don’t exalt it. Don’t magnify it. Put it out by magnifying the Lord. Celebrate Jesus in the fire. Celebrate the fact that you are in the palm of His hand even when there is fire around you. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you stay strong and stay calm.

My prayer today is that you find peace during these fiery times. I pray that you can see the Lord even when things are burning up inside and around you. You are still in God’s hand. You are still blessed. You are still protected. Keep your helmet of salvation on. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. Don the gear of victory. It is made of prayer, praise and thanksgiving. You are going to make it through this fire. Stay encouraged!
