Living Hope

I call Jesus my living hope. He is very much present every day. He is more alive than anyone I know. He is part of my life and He makes my life so much better. He is the light that never goes dark. The life that injects more life into my life. He is God. He is the King of Kings. He is the best friend you and I can have. He is family. He is the head of the family. He is beauty incarnated and love personified. My living Hope is with me all the time and I am working on making this more and more of a reality. He doesn’t need to work on His end. He is all set. We are the ones who need to work on getting closer to Him and on believing how real He is. It is so easy to get bogged down by life and to drift away from our living Hope. We are way too familiar with the living despair. He is the opposite of the living Hope and he gets into our lives easily. It is time we magnified our living Hope and we minimized the living despair. Jesus won against the enemy. His hope is stronger than the despair of the enemy. Let’s walk hand in hand with our living Hope. Let’s give Him the time of day and let’s push despair out of our minds and out of our hearts.

To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”* You believe in Jesus so you have the hope of glory in you. You have hope living in you. The living hope that is with you all the time is more powerful than your problems and your trials. However, if you don’t engage with the living Hope, if you are not familiar with Him, the Hope will not help you. It won’t do anything for you. It’s like having a treasure in a chest and never using it or never even looking at it. What good would it be to have millions if you didn’t  understand that they are yours to use? I am not saying that you should use Jesus. No, I am saying that the aware of His presence can fill you with joy and hope and we should use that awareness. His presence is a permanent fixture that we don’t always take into consideration. Some people “feel” that God has left them. He hasn’t but the distractions and the priorities they have are not conducive to communicating with God or to being aware of Him. There is a strong need for daily interaction with the living Hope. We can learn so much from Him and we are meant to worship Him. We should be worshiping Jesus every day. That habit takes us to a higher level in our relationship with Him. He reveals Himself when we praise Him. He inhabits our praises. The living Hope that we long for is right there in our praises. Let’s lift Him up.

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people”** We can be enlightened and receive the revelation of the hope that is in us. I want to be hopeful all the time and make sure that my hope comes from the living Hope who gives away His blessings freely. The living Hope is precious. Jesus is precious. I love that He makes His home in our hearts through His Spirit. We are so fortunate. We are so blessed and we should know that the hope that is always by our side makes our lives easier. We should tap into the power of the living Hope. Hope is what we should wear every day. We should react to life with the living Hope. Let’s divorce discouragement and let’s be married to the living Hope that is in us. Life is hard. Life can be extremely hard but the living Hope never dies and He can make anything better. Dear friend, there is always hope. The living Hope can change anything in your life. Hang on to hope. Hold on to Jesus. You have everything you need because you have Jesus, the living Hope! May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Run to joy

There is joy in the house of the Lord. There is no sadness and no grief in the Lord. He is a joyful Lord. I forget that at times. I don’t want to forget anymore. My source of joy is the Lord. I find joy in Jesus. My relationship with Him brings me joy. He is the king of joy and I will keep that in the forefront of my life. It is so easy to lose joy and to be defeated. One piece of news and all the joy is gone. One word, one thought and joy is nowhere to be found. It is during those times when we lose joy that we should be looking for it and running after it. I have run away from joy way too many times in my life because I either thought I didn’t deserve it or I didn’t feel like embracing it. You see, that is part of the enemy’s plan. He wants us all to run away from joy or to stay away from it.

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit and when we don’t have joy, we are not giving the Holy Spirit a chance to spread His wings in us. Why should we have joy when things are not going well? That is a question the enemy uses to poison our thinking. He tries to make us feel guilty. There should be no guilt in being joyful in the midst of our trials. It is actually recommended behavior in the Word of God. The joy of the Lord is our strength. When everything is chaotic, we shouldn’t run away from our strength. We should run to it. We should run to the Lord in all circumstances, good or bad. Today I want to encourage you to run to joy. No matter what is going on in your life, run to joy. Run to Jesus!

What does running to joy look like? Where can we find joy when we don’t feel joyful at all? Jesus is joy. That was a hard reality for me growing up because I thought He was very somber and serious. He is the opposite. He radiates with joy and He is the incarnation of joy. Running to joy is running to Jesus. When I don’t feel well and joy seems to have vanished, I open my Bible. That is a safe place for me to find Jesus. I love reading the four Gospels and I focus on the red writings in my Bible. They are the words of Jesus. I read them and I meditate on them. I read them with the filter of love in mind. Love is behind everything Jesus says and does.

When I look at Jesus’ words, I sense the love and I sense peace. I also find joy in His words. There are so many encouraging promises in what He says and that encouragement fills me with joy. I tap into the joy of the Lord when I dive into His Word and I am grounded and at peace. Jesus is joy and running to Him means running away from anxiety and from fear. Running to joy means running to the strength that can get us all through the worst situations. When the going gets tough, we need joy. We need to connect with the King of joy and spend time with Him.

I spend time with Jesus every day. I enter His gates with gladness. My worship and praise sessions are filled with joy. When life tries to depress me, I get into praise mode. At first I have to fight though the emotions and the negative thoughts that attempt to paralyze me. I declare that I am not tied down to despair but I am slave to God’s joy. His joy haunts me. It invades me and it overwhelms me. I can’t get down on myself when the joy of the Lord is all around me. That amazing experience happens when I praise and glorify the Lord. That is how I run to joy. I run to joy through singing and celebrating. I do it when I don’t feel like it. It is the sacrifice of praise and it is always worth it.

I run to joy by removing the sadness that is in the way. I can’t do it on my own. Jesus helps me and He blesses me with joy when I stick with Him and hold on tight to His love. Run to joy, today, friend. There is great power in the Lord’s joy. It is hard to connect to it at times but don’t give up. Keep pressing and keep running after His joy. You will be blessed and you will find strength. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

God has a better option

I went to one of my favorite coffee shops the other day to do some writing and to get breakfast. When I got to the place, they asked me if I was dining in. I said I was and much to my surprise they said that on weekends if you are eating by yourself you can’t eat in the main room because they get very busy and they reserve the seats for bigger parties. They told me I could take a seat in the lounge and sit on the cozy couch. I wanted to be in the room I am usually in so I wasn’t happy. I know the lady tried to make the lounge sound like a great place to be but in my heart I wasn’t having it.

I did comply and sat on the couch and as I sat down, I heard on the inside “Remember I always have better for you. Trust Me.” The lounge was indeed very comfortable and I loved it. It is now my favorite place to be when I go to the coffee shop. What happened illustrated how God always have something better for us. We can be used to a certain routine that He wants to change up for good reasons. What He has to offer is not always appealing but if we trust Him and we go with it, we will find out that His choice is better than ours.

You have probably read passages in the Bible about God’s plans for our lives. He has a plan for all of us. Now, you can see it as one plan with many parts or a series of plans for our lives. He is interested in every part of our lives so He has plans for every part of our lives. We can embrace the plans or we can reject them. On a small scale, His plan for me that morning was to find out about the lounge space and enjoy a new experience that has become my new normal at that coffee shop. It allowed me to see that the main room was too noisy and not as comfy even though it was nice. Now, I could have decided to walk out of the coffee shop and go somewhere else because of the frustration I was feeling.

I think we get to a point where we don’t understand that God has a better option and we walk out. We walk out and we decide to go our own way. We miss out on something better. God always has the best option and when we stay open to His suggestions, we open ourselves to what’s best. How do we know what God’s will is? In general we can find a great outline in the Bible. When it comes to smaller matters or to more detailed areas of our lives, we can trust the Holy Spirit and we can trust that if we pray for His will to be done, it will be done. The key is to pray to God and thank Him that His plan is always the best. Then we just need to walk in that truth and believe that His plans are unfolding in our lives.

I didn’t like how it felt to be turned down by the wait staff at the coffee shop. It felt like a slap in the face. I was tired and things got to me more easily. There was no reason to be frustrated and to be upset but my emotions and feelings tried to get the best of me. I thank God that I didn’t follow their lead and I just accepted the alternate spot I was given. Once again this is just an illustration. I am by no means comparing the waiters to God. When God gives us a better option, it can be very subtle and we have to go with our faith and trust Him. He doesn’t always plainly explain what His plan is and that is why we need faith. However, when we have blind faith in Him, everything works out for the best and we end up in a better place from where we started off. God is not the only One who has options for our lives.

The enemy has many options and they are all very bad. Some can seem more appealing than others and they often don’t appear to be negative at first. The only way we can avoid them is by praying for discernment and staying in faith like I said before. When you find yourself having to make a decision, put it all in God’s hands. Give Him free rein to provide His best option for you. Dear friend, God always has a better option. It’s coming. Keep trusting Him! May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Life with the Holy Spirit

God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Every time I read that verse or every time it comes to mind, I can’t help but be grateful for what God did for us. It blows my mind that the Father gave His Son as a sacrifice so that we shouldn’t perish. Jesus died for our sins, for our inities and for our transgressions. Now, if we believe in Him and trust Him to be our Savior, not only are our sins forgiven but we are also given eternal life. Our spiritual life is locked in Heaven. We have the promise of a life with Christ. That life doesn’t start later. It starts the moment we accept Jesus as our Savior. That life is not better for some believers because they are special. We are all special in God’s eyes and we all have access to the eternal life the Lord bought for us.

What does that life look like? It is depicted in the Bible and it is best lived with the Holy Spirit. Every believer receives the Holy Spirit once he or she has Jesus as their Savior. Does that mean that eternal life is easy and we live on cloud 9 all the time? Absolutely not! One thing that is extremely important is that we acknowledge the Holy Spirit and we live our lives with Him. Many believers are not aware of the Holy Spirit. They know of Jesus but they don’t know His Spirit. The truth is we can’t know Jesus without the Holy Spirit. His Spirit is the One who connects us to Jesus. Today I want to encourage you to enjoy life with the Holy Spirit. Let Him be more real in your life. Give Him the room He deserves. Rejoice over the amazing gift of the Lord Jesus.

Jesus said He would send us His Spirit and His Spirit would dwell in us. How many of us are aware of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? How many of us can say that we know the Spirit of Jesus? When I pray, I talk to the Holy Spirit. I often thank Jesus for His Spirit and then I thank the Holy Spirit for being my counselor, my comforter and my helper. The Lord is the Spirit. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one. The Holy Spirit represents them in our lives. He is God standing by us and staying in us. The power of the Holy Spirit lives in us but if we ignore Him or if we don’t take Him into consideration, His power will not do us any good. What does His power do? It points out to Jesus.

The power of the Holy Spirit celebrates Jesus as Lord and Savior. We have the power to know Jesus. We have to power to link up with Jesus. Jesus asked the Father to send us the ultimate advocate to help us and to be with us forever. Thank Jesus for His Spirit. Declare every day that the power of the Holy Spirit is in you and that you will tap into His power to praise and worship Jesus. You have the power to magnify Jesus so do it as often as you can. Your flesh might be pulling you away from the Lord but you have what it takes to overcome the flesh and to praise the Lord at all times. Make it a habit to use the power of the Spirit in you to extol Jesus.

I mentioned that the Holy Spirit was a counselor, a comforter, an advocate and He is also a friend. He is alive. He is a person and He is the best person we can know. Why? Because like I said He always steers us in Jesus’ direction and He is God. Who wouldn’t want to have God within them all the time? We are God’s temple. That is such an honor and privilege. Living with the Holy Spirit should be the focus of our lives. Our everyday life should be marked by communicating with the Lord thanks to the Holy Spirit. We pray and talk to God through the power of the Holy Spirit. That is what His power does. Every time we are inclined to pray, it is the power of the Holy Spirit in us that is in action.

We don’t need lightening and thunder to take place for us to be motivated by the Spirit of God. He is gentle and kind and He won’t force us to lift up Jesus but He knocks on the door of our hearts and wants to come in. Let’s be sure to answer the door and give the Spirit of God the best seat in the house. The Spirit of God also pours God’s love in our hearts. It is a powerful outpouring that can be manifested if we yield to the Spirit. Friend, we have an amazing life thanks to Jesus. God gave His Son so we would have eternal life with His Spirit. Let’s involve the Spirit of God in all we do and let’s give Him first place. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Making the most of today with God

Times flies! When I think about things that happened five years, it seems like a long time ago but at the same time it seems like yesterday I was traveling around Europe with my friends from church. In 2016 we visited a few European countries and we had the best time. Has it really been 5 years? 5 years is nothing in the large scheme of things. Time flies and we ought to fly with it. What I mean is that we need to appreciate the time we have but we should also be active and get things moving. I am all about being patient and staying in the moment. It is crucial. However, I also believe that we need to act now when it comes to a few elements of our lives.

We can stay in the present and do a lot of praying now. We can enjoy today and develop spiritual habits today. Some of us have a tendency to wait for tomorrow to start moving and to start being more engaged with the Lord. God is here today. His blessings are here today. His Word is relevant today. Prayers are important today. Praise is for today. Worship is a habit we should have today. Let’s not wait until tomorrow to interact with God in meaningful ways. Let’s not use staying in the moment we am excuse to not do what God calls us to do.

I used to think that I had plenty of time to change my ways and to be more connected with God. I used to make a plan to be more intimate with God but the plan stayed in my head and it never landed anywhere. God is in the past, the present and the future but we can’t rely on a relationship with God that will take place in the future without giving it a go today. Staying in the present also means staying in communion with God now. All the plans that we have to be more involves with God should be executed today.

The prayers we think of saying. The praise sessions we want to hold. All these wonderful things are only effective if we put them into action. We have amazing opportunities today to be with God. If we keep on postponing our time with God, time will fly and we will be left stranded on the platform of life waiting for something to get us moving. We could wait forever. The stimulus shouldn’t come from outside. It is in us. You and I have the power to get stirred up for God. It lies in us and we can tap into it.

Today I want to encourage to get going and to interact with God. Don’t wait for a better time to do it. The best time to get connected is now. Don’t wait for a better place to be. The best place is where you are now because God is with you everywhere. I had plans 5 years ago to build a stronger relationship with God. Although it is stronger, I have to admit that I took a few breaks from building what I had planned. Those breaks were not constructive. I am done lingering and waiting for better opportunities.

The Lord has given me great reasons to be more active in my faith and I am visiting every single reason now knowing that I will thank myself later for taking the steps to having a more active faith. I pray today. I pray every day anywhere I am and it has been phenomenal. I touch the heart of the Lord with my praise whenever I can and it has been invigorating. I love interacting with the Lord and my prayer is that you are actively engaged with Him today. Tomorrow will be here before you know it so make the most of today with God. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

When prayers don’t seem to work

Sometimes pain remains despite prayer. Sometimes the bills keep adding up despite prayer. Sometimes nothing changes despite prayer. Sometimes God seems to be away despite prayer. The truth is that He never leaves and He never falters. He doesn’t make mistakes and He doesn’t take us for granted. One thing we need to understand is that despite the pain, the suffering and the struggles, God’s love for us is unchanging. God loves us all the time. He loves us when our prayers are answered and when we don’t receive what we have been waiting for. So why don’t we get answers to our prayers? I don’t have all the answers but I know we are called to persevere and to keep believing. The change will come. The healing will come. The answer will come. We might have to wait a lot longer than we wish but God is faithful.

Today I want to encourage you to persevere and to not give up when your prayers don’t seem to work. God is working behind the scenes and there is more happening than you know. God will honor His Word. Stay in the game Stay hopeful. Blessings are on their way. Don’t give up. I know that the pain can be unbearable. I have been there and I have cried out to God with no reply but then all of a sudden and out of the blue, God showed up. He will show up for you. Keep your faith high. Keep your hopes up. God will not leave you stranded when you are on the path of your journey. Have faith that things will change and patiently wait. Don’t waste the time while you wait. Do something productive and constructive.

Your prayers in the name of Jesus are never in vain. God never said that your prayers would be answered in the next week or in the next hour. He said that you should keep on praying with thanksgiving. This means that you make your request known once and then you keep thanking God no matter what. Pray with thanksgiving. Give thanks to the One who is going to change your situation. Give thanks to the One who is going to heal you. God is going to do something beautiful for you. Your life is going to be touched by Heaven. Don’t lose hope. When your prayers are not moving mountains, remember that God is watching your faith and He is taking care of your mountains in His timing. Rejoice and put all your hope in the Lord. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

When you decide to follow God

When you decide to follow God, you are always right. It might feel like you made a choice that you will regret but you are always right. Following God is following love, peace, joy and truth. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and when you are behind Him, you are in front of blessings that will follow you wherever you go. Following God doesn’t mean that trouble will not stalk you. Trouble will pursue you but God’s hand will be on you. You will be protected and shielded. At times you will want to throw in the towel but the Lord will always have your back and He will hold you in the palm of His hand. Following God is following the best. God is never wrong. God is never late. God is never unfair. God is always the best ally. Follow God, friend and you will be on the right path. Don’t let the enemy talk you into getting on a different road. The road ahead will be paved with joy and peace and trials and tribulations but nothing will get in the way of your success. When you follow God, you are on the winning team. Follow God. You will never walk alone.

Following God is more than just reading the Bible on a regular basis. Reading the Word is important and it is necessary but there are different ways to read the Word. You can read the Word and intellectualize the whole experience. You won’t get much out of it that way. You can read with your mind and with your reasoning and turn the process into something cerebral that is not spiritual. God is Spirit and we need to have a spiritual connection with Him. We need to have a spiritual connection with His Word. Following God means reading His Word and letting it become a part of us. It means giving room to the Word so it can grow in our lives and so it can change us. Following God is interacting with His Word and applying it. Praying is part of following God. It is also filling our hearts with His love and holding on to faith at all times. Following God is a spiritual experience that impacts our lives and the lives of people around us.

Following God is following love like I said earlier. Love is the most important thing and when we follow God, we decide to walk in love and we make love a priority. Following God is not just following rituals and doctrines. The one doctrine we should abide by is the doctrine of love. It is not a regular doctrine. It is a commandment from the Lord. Love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbors as yourself. God is love and we, His followers, should seek love wherever we go and spread love. If today you are trying to follow God, remember that love is what will keep you on the right path. Love should always be in front of you, guiding you. Enjoy the walk of love with God. Follow Him and you will follow the biggest blessing in the world. Jesus is the most amazing blessing and when you follow Him, you are always right. He will never mislead you. Keep following God even when you seem lost. Trust that He is showing you the right way. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

When you are in the valley

God does things right. When I look back at what has happened in my life, I can’t help but think that God has orchestrated everything beautifully. There have been ups and downs and some of the downs were way down in the valley of death but God has also taken me to the mountain tops. Some of those tops have been so high that I couldn’t have seen them before I went up there. They were far beyond anything I could have imagined. There have been times when the impossible was made possible in a breath-taking manner.

“God can do great things” is an understatement. I thank Him for the victories and I praise Him for being in the valley with me. If you are in the valley today, a mountain top is on the way. It might take a while but it’s coming. While you are in the valley, look at the Lord. Don’t close your eyes and hope things get better. Keep your eyes wide open and focus on the Lord. When you do, the valley is more than bearable and joy can come meet you right there in the valley!

Finding joy and peace in the valley is not something I was told could happen. I was more of the belief that the valley was a painful place where sorrow and despair reigned. Yes, there is pain the valley. There is no doubt about it but Jesus is also in the valley. He has been to the deepest valleys that exist and He came back victorious. He is smiling at your in your valley and He has a plan to get you through your ordeal. The cross destroyed the valley. The empty tomb defeated the valley.

Give your faith a chance to destroy and defeat the valley as you put all your trust in the Lord’s ability to help you in the valley. It can be a lonely place but the Lord will provide what you need and give you strength in the midst of your suffering. Say a prayer. Ask Him to assist you. He listens and He acts. Expect peace in the valley. Expect the opposite of what your feelings and emotions are telling you. You can find joy in the valley in the name of Jesus. Wait and see what He does for you in your solitude.

I remember a time in the valley of death when everything felt like I was walking through a desert. That horrible valley was empty. There was no hope in sight and there was no relief coming any time soon. That was at least what the devil was whispering to me. You see, the enemy wants you to believe that Jesus is not with you when you are going through problems. He wants you to think you are all alone. It is a lie. God is by your side all the time. Say it to yourself. Declare it even when it hurts. Speak to the loneliness.

Make a declaration of faith and tell the enemy that your Lord is accompanying you in the valley. Talk to the Lord in the valley. Pray more. Praise more. Read the Bible more. Joy will come. As you get closer to the Lord, His joy will be your strength. You don’t have to be down in the valley. You can walk and you can run with faith. The Lord can bless you tremendously in the middle of your worst times. Don’t lose hope. God is going to pour showers of joy in that valley and you are going to smile again, laugh again and triumph again. Help is coming. Joy is rising. Fix your eyes on Jesus and not on the valley. Stay encouraged! May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!
